I'm a technology enthusiast and a lover of anime, manga, and games. The vast majority of anime I enjoy belong to the Shounen demographic.

Makoto Shinkai revealed via his official Twitter this Saturday that Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume's Door-Locking), his first new film in three years, has finished production.

The first 12 minutes of the film will air in Japan on the NTV channel.

Suzume no Tojimari officially premieres in Japan on November 11th.

“We must think about how to close the many doors we’ve left open,” says Shinkai as he continues working on the film. “I gave this responsibility to Suzume as she travels around Japan closing various doors. It is my sincere hope that this film will leave its audience with big smiles and emotion as they leave the theater.”

Shinkai describes Suzume no Tojimari as a modern adventure story, an action film with a grand journey involved.

Synopsis

The story centers on Suzume, a 17-year-old girl from a quiet town in Kyushu who meets a young man searching for a door. They find a door within ruins in the mountains, and Suzume opens it. Soon, more doors begin to open around Japan, bringing disaster from the other side. The film portrays Suzume's liberation and growth as she closes the doors that are causing the disaster.

Shinkai stated that three important points about the film are that it is a journey through Japan, and therefore, a story about "closing doors" rather than opening them. He elaborated that closing doors could refer to tying up loose ends or finishing something.
