The slogan in the image above says: “See you later”.
The image below that was revealed still shows the main character Suzume walking to what appears to be a small hot spring town. The film's first teaser will be released on the TOHO Movie YouTube channel this Sunday, April 10, at 8pm.
“We must think about how to close the many doors we left open,” says Shinkai as he continues working on the film. “I have given this responsibility to Suzume as she travels around Japan closing various doors. It is my sincere hope that this film leaves its audience with big smiles and excitement when they leave the theater.”
Shinkai describes Suzume no Tojimari as a modern adventure story, an action film with a big journey involved.
Synopsis
The story centers on Suzume, a 17-year-old girl from a quiet town in Kyuushuu who meets a young man looking for a door. They find a door inside the mountain ruins, and Suzume opens it. Soon, more doors begin to open around Japan, bringing disaster on the other side. The film depicts Suzume's liberation and growth as she closes the doors that are causing the disaster.
Shinkai stated that three important points about the film are that it is a journey through Japan film, a story about “closing doors” rather than opening them. He elaborated that closing doors can refer to tying up loose ends or finishing something.
