The November issue of Monthly Hero announced that the manga series Sword Gai will soon be getting an animated version. According to the magazine, the series is scheduled to be released in 2016. Production will be handled by DLE studio.
The cast and other details will be announced soon. Toshiki Inoue (Kamen Rider 555, Kamen Rider Agito) is currently writing the manga's story while Osamu Kine is drawing the manga based on the original characters by Keita Amemiya (Garo).
The story revolves around Gai, who was born next to a woman who met her death in a forest. He was adopted by a blacksmith named Amon. A few years later, Gai becomes Amon's apprentice, and while forging a sword, he loses his right arm. To help him, Amon crushes the demon sword Shiryu (literally, Death Dragon) to replace Gai's right arm. Gai is then able to fuse with the weapon and fight his enemies.
The manga began in the December 2012 issue of Monthly Hero. The manga inspired a 3D CG promotional video by Frontier Digital last year.
