Publisher Wangyuan Shengtang and developer Aurogon Shanghai have officially announced Swords of Legends, a new single-player action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology. The game, formerly known as Gujian 4, is coming to PC and consoles with no set release date yet, promising a cinematic experience in a universe full of Eastern legends and traditions.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, the title features a deep narrative, accessible combat, and a world marked by the transition between life and death. With this, the Gujian franchise gets a sequel that aims to win over both veterans and new players.

Swords of Legends: A journey between the living and the dead

In Swords of Legends, the player takes on the role of an Enforcer of the Underworld, a figure responsible for guiding lost souls and helping them overcome regrets. The setting blends fantasy with direct references to Chinese folklore, featuring creatures such as the Ox-Head and Horse-Face guardians, who act as allies throughout the adventure.

The narrative approach goes beyond simply retoldting well-known legends. Each soul encountered possesses a unique story, marked by pain and desires that bind the spirit to the world of the living. This approach guarantees not only immersion but also emotionally charged moments that stand out in the plot.

Accessible combat with plenty of possibilities

Unlike games with punishing difficulty, Swords of Legends focuses on balanced battles, geared towards all types of players. The soul capture system connects to both the story and the gameplay, allowing you to summon monster spirits to aid in battles. Some of them can even perform combined attacks with the protagonist, adding strategic variety to the combat.

Furthermore, exploration offers special items that strengthen the character and increase skill customization options. This flexibility ensures that each player can adapt their play style according to the challenges faced.

A standalone continuation of the Gujian franchise

Although it is the official successor to the Gujian series, the new title features a completely independent plot. This means that it is not necessary to have played the previous chapters to understand the story. The idea is to expand the already known universe, but to offer a self-contained narrative that serves as an entry point for new fans.

Large-scale development

The project began in 2021, but gained momentum from 2024 onwards, when the team secured new investments and expanded its production. With the choice of Unreal Engine 5, the developers sought to elevate the visual quality and scale of the game, even while facing budgetary challenges. Currently, Swords of Legends is in an advanced stage of production, with the first trailer revealed showcasing the studio's progress.
