The 10 best fights in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Charles Ono
Hello! My name is Charlles, and I'm passionate about Japanese culture, especially the world of anime. Here, I share curiosities, news, and everything related to this world...

For nearly four decades, Hirohiko Araki has been showcasing his inking genius for all to see in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure , a classic of Weekly Shonen Jump and, later, Ultra Jump. Recognized for its eclectic influences, its uncanny ability to balance absurdity and suspense, and its fearless approach to the macabre, JoJo has amassed a huge number of memorable fights over the years.

However , for one reason or another, we believe the fights below are on another level. So, check out the 10 best fights in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, ranked.

JoJo's Bizarre Fights – Top 10

10. Jolyne & Hermes vs. Donatello Versus (Part 6: Stone Ocean )

Overall, Stone Ocean can be considered an exercise in battle choreography honed to make each fight feel like a prison cell in itself. From the pseudo-mastery expansions of Stands like Dragon's Dream to the world itself becoming a faceless enemy in Heavy Weather and Bohemian Rhapsody, Stone Ocean boasts countless memorable sequences where the enemy—literally or metaphorically—puts the ropes around the boxing ring.

Few Stands exemplify this as impressively as Under World, Donatello Versus' Stand, which plunges people into vivid reenactments of memories. Placing Jolyne and Hermes in the midst of the memory of a fatal plane crash, the duo must overcome their circumstances to survive and eventually secure victory. Between its tension and uncannily straightforward mechanics, Under World is one of Stone Ocean —and one of its most harrowing battles.

09. Giorno & Mista vs. Ghiaccio (Part 5: Golden Wind )

Did you know that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is secretly another anime about the "power of friendship"? Jokes aside, few battles exemplify the way Stands can elevate each other like Giorno and Mista's confrontation with Ghiaccio, the ice-suited, White Album-wielding Stand capable of lowering the temperature of a target area to absolute zero (through the ability "Weep Softly").

The synergy between Giorno's Golden Experience and Mista's Sex Pistols is impressive and immensely creative on Araki's part. The battle also serves as a springboard for Mista's own story, which becomes even more impactful when the tense battle with Ghiaccio brings him to the brink of death. Giorno's satisfying finish is achieved through a no-holds-barred struggle, mentally, physically, and emotionally, that shows both sides at their most adaptable—and unstoppable.

08. Caesar vs. Wamuu (Part 2: Battle Tendency )

JoJo 's early mechanics had certain limitations, with Hamon essentially being just an energy system that would be present in countless other shonen battles. However, Caesar vs. Wamuu showcases Araki at the peak of his pre-Standard career, with a compelling battle that pushes the mechanical limits of JoJo's heroes and villains .

Caesar provides one of the best examples of Hamon's performance in combat, while Wamuu demonstrates Araki's eagerness to progress beyond the already superhuman threat level of the Part 1 vampires. Ending on a sour note after an incredible display from both fighters, viewers are left with Joseph's moving (and forever memorable) "CAESAR!" as Caesar and Wamuu bid farewell to JoJo's shroud.

07. Everyone vs. C-MOON & Made in Heaven (Part 6: Stone Ocean )

All vs. C-MOON & Made in Heaven

Our placement at the end of Stone Ocean will inevitably be a bit controversial. Don't worry: we can explain. First, it's a one-sided fight. Certain parts of the fight are genuinely entertaining—like Jolyne's attempt to overcome C-MOON by simultaneously controlling gravity and time—but by definition, she and the team around her can only resist so much.

Even so, the battle is epic and visually stunning. It's as overwhelming as Made in Heaven itself when, for example, Jotaro lets out one of his only screams in the series upon seeing Jolyne nearly struck by Pucci's scattered knives. Not to mention, Emporio's final victory over Pucci, preventing a total reset that would have wiped out Jolyne and her crew, is equally captivating and clever. Stone Ocean is bittersweet and imperfect, but also unforgettable.

06. Risotto vs. Doppio (Part 5: Golden Wind )

This shocking battle features Doppio's secondary personality, Diavolo, and his Stand, King Crimson, as part of a fierce battle against Risotto Nero. Risotto is the leader of La Squadra Esecuzioni, tasked with defeating Team Bucciarati and kidnapping Trish, and the group's previous presence in the plot makes the stakes of the battle even higher for JoJo's fans.

Narancia's presence through Aerosmith leads Risotto to discover that Doppio possesses a Stand, and the ensuing battle is a nightmare. Risotto's Stand, Metallica, is terrifying: capable of magnetically controlling all sources of iron, the unforgettable body horror of the battle is evident when, for example, Risotto makes Doppio vomit razor blades. Despite Risotto's efforts to control the situation and take advantage of Aerosmith, Doppio's masterful manipulation of the battle mechanics ensures his victory.

05. Giorno vs. Diavolo (Part 5: Golden Wind )

Much like Stone Ocean's ending, Golden Wind's finale may be a bit jarring. Unfortunately, these are the biggest of the big leagues, and Giorno Giovanna doesn't win some of the remaining fights. The buildup to the fight is incredible, with the tension surrounding the Stand Arrow's possession and the body swap. The final battle itself also deserves praise for its excitement and pacing.

There are some superb moments embedded in this high-stakes battle built on the corpses of several Team Bucciarati members! Regardless, Gold Experience Requiem's monologue will be remembered for a long time. The fight also cements Giorno as the strongest in the original JoJo .

04. Everyone vs. Kira (Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable )

Every story should aspire to be as meticulous as Diamond is Unbreakable's . Although Yoshikage Kira doesn't appear as the main antagonist until his encounter with Shigechi, and despite Rohan's adventure in Ghost Girl Alley alongside Koichi, his role is hinted at from the very first frames. As Araki explores every corner of Part 4's version of Morioh-cho, he slowly builds a chilling profile of Kira himself.

The onslaught against him is relentlessly tense: Kira feels like the true JoJo ! With a Stand that resets time to ensure the stability of his "peaceful life." From the main cast's shrewdness to Josuke and Okuyasu's meticulous cooperation in luring Kira into the open world, to Jotaro's return as the final hero, JoJo with Morioh-cho are generally safeguarded when Kira is defeated.

03. Johnny & Gyro vs. D4C (Part 7: Steel Ball Run )

There are countless reasons to read Steel Ball Run before it finally hits the big screen! After an entire installment dedicated to strengthening Johnny and Gyro's relationship as a couple, the duo now faces the morally complicated President Funny Valentine through a series of brilliant upgrades and dimension-transcending antics.

Steel Ball Run introduces a series of new concepts that the ending perfectly ties together. The part also shows Araki reaching new heights as a storyteller, something eloquently framed in the moving retrospective scenes following Gyro's untimely death.

02. Josuke vs. Wonder of U (Part 8: Jojolion )

Anime - JoJo's Bizarre

Mark our words: when Jojolion finally gets animated, its latest set of antagonists will be remembered as some of JoJo's best. Jojolion is a sprawling character who sometimes gives the illusion of being unfocused. The final battle with Wonder of U—and, by extension, the "universal law of calamity" itself—illuminates the crystal-clear focus Jojolion maintained throughout.

Steel Ball Run 's confrontation with Funny Valentine represents the best of the final bosses from the first three installments in its direct intensity, Jojolion represents the best of Diamond is Unbreakable up to Stone Ocean . The ending of each installment is tangential, chilling, claustrophobic, and grotesque. Josuke and his team's standoff with Tooru and The Wonder of U goes even further! It's a truly frightening and claustrophobic finale that somehow perfectly ties together all the installment's narrative adventures thus far.

01. Jotaro vs. DIO (Part 3: Stardust Crusaders )

There's something you could affectionately call "monkey magic." Think of it this way: do something to impress a monkey, and it will repeat what you said, as if it were learning a magic trick.

To set the stage: after countless challenges during their journey across the world, the Crusaders are reduced by DIO's henchmen stationed in and around Cairo. Jotaro witnesses DIO defeat Kakyoin and feed on his grandfather Josep! This, during what became the most impenetrable and legendary fight of all time. Through a series of radical maneuvers, such as crushing Jotaro with a steamroller, Jotaro reveals his true nature, copying Dio's "The World" to stop time and turn the tide. It's one of the most recognizable moments in the entire franchise and one of the most emotional in anime history.
