In a recent interview on Globis , Manabu Otsuka discusses the future of technology in anime and the use of artificial intelligence. Otsuka comments that the use of AI is still under development, but he hopes it will become a helpful tool for anime production in the future.

“In the production process, we haven’t yet reached the point where AI has taken over human hands and improved efficiency. We are researching the latest information on AI and working on developing how to use it. I hope that AI will make it easier to manage the detailed numbers in production.”

Furthermore, Shuhei Hosono , editor-in-chief of Shonen Jump+ , and Yuki Naito , president of Drecom , also participate in this interview. Hosono then mentions that they will also be using artificial intelligence in Shonen Jump+ projects.

“We’ve been doing machine translation with a company called Mantra for some time now. The language barrier is the biggest obstacle to globalization, so if machine translation is developed, that will be solved. Cartoonists are like general art directors. This time, the AI team will step in, with the manga artist integrating and supervising them, but there may be changes.”
