Furthermore, the first two episodes will have their world premiere during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in June. Global streaming will be handled by Amazon Prime Video, with the exception of Russia and China. In Japan, the platform will have temporary exclusivity in the distribution of the series.
The anime is directed by Mokochan, known for his work on DAN DA DAN and Tatami Time Machine Blues, marking his debut as lead director. The script is by Toh Enjoe, who worked on Godzilla Singular Point and the film The Empire of Corpses.

Shūhei Handa is responsible for character design and also serves as chief animation director. The soundtrack features Taisei Iwasaki, Ryō Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka. The production also involves Production IG, Kodansha, and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
Series pays homage to the franchise's legacy
The announcement also paid tribute to actress Atsuko Tanaka, the original voice of Motoko Kusanagi in the franchise, who passed away in August 2024 at the age of 61. The new adaptation seeks to present a modern reinterpretation of the work created by Masamune Shirow, while maintaining classic science fiction and cyberpunk elements that have marked generations.
