Sony has just announced via Twitter that the game The Last of Us Part II will be delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Iron Man game was scheduled to release on May 15th, and the sequel to The Last of Us on May 28th.

The Last of Us Part II developer Naughty Dog has issued its own statement lamenting the circumstances.

As you've probably just seen, the release of The Last of Us Part II has been delayed. We're sure this news is as disappointing for you as it is for us. We'd like to reach out to everyone in our community to provide a little more information.

Check out Sony's note on Twitter :

"The good news is that we're almost done with development on The Last of Us Part II. We're in the middle of fixing our final bugs."

“However, even if we finish the game, we face the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we cannot release The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to ensure that everyone can play the game at roughly the same time, ensuring that we are doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This means delaying the game until a time when we can resolve the logistical issues.”

"We are saddened by this decision, but we understand it is the best and fairest thing for all our players. We hope this won't be a long delay and will update you as soon as we have new information to share."

"We wish you all, your families, and friends the best of health. Thank you for being such incredible fans and your continued support."

“Stay safe!”

Finally, the sequel to the acclaimed 2013 game takes place five years after the events of the first game and would star Ellie, following her journey of revenge against a group that attacked her alongside her romantic partner, Dina. Joel, her father figure and the protagonist of the original, would accompany her throughout this story.
