Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time , the film that promises to be the last Evangelion 10 billion yen mark

The film reached 9 billion yen on June 14th, and hit 9.32 billion yen on June 20th.

It's worth remembering that the film Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 began showing on June 12th and promises to be the film's last showing. The new version contains "minor revisions" to some animation sequences, but does not change the film's story. Most cinemas, but not all, will stop showing the film from July 21st.

The film premiered in Japan on March 8th and ranked first in its opening weekend. It sold 2,194,533 tickets and grossed 3,338,422,400 yen in its first seven days across 466 Japanese cinemas. This represents a 33.6% increase in ticket sales and a 45.1% increase in revenue compared to the previous Evangelion film during its respective first seven days. It's also worth noting that the film was screened in 82 cinemas equipped for 4D projection.

In its third week, the film surpassed the box office revenue of Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Refo , which grossed a total of 5.3 billion yen. The new film is now the most successful film in the series, both inside and outside of Japan.

The team had previously postponed the film from January 23rd to March 8th due to the state of emergency declared in four prefectures in Japan on January 8th, which was later extended to a total of 11 prefectures. The film had also experienced a prior delay due to concerns regarding COVID-19 and its spread within and outside of Japan. The film was therefore originally scheduled to premiere in Japan on June 27th, 2020.
