manga manga ) of the 1960s largely consisted of simple stories aimed at school-age girls, where topics such as politics and sexuality were considered taboo. These attitudes began to change in the 1970s, when new authors began moving shoujo manga away from children and toward teenagers and young women.
This change was led by Year Group 24, a new generation of shoujo manga artists, including Ikeda. The group received this name because they were born around the 24th year of the Showa era (1949 in the Gregorian calendar).

Synopsis The Rose of Versailles:
To unite their countries, the empress of Austria organizes the marriage of her daughter, the spoiled Marie Antoinette, with the crown prince of France, Louis XVI. At Versailles, Antoinette meets Óscar François de Jarjayes, captain of the royal guard, who is surprisingly a woman.
The noble family, who lacked a male heir, raised Oscar as a boy to continue the military legacy. Stifled by the strict rules of her new position and longing for company, Antoinette quickly becomes interested in Oscar and they soon become friends. However, as the new queen abuses her power, Oscar finds herself torn between her loyalty to the royal family and the poverty of the people.
Eventually Riyoko Ikeda began publishing the manga in Shueisha's Margaret magazine in May 1972 and suspended it in December 1973. He later republished it between April 2013 and February 2018, accumulating fourteen compilation volumes.
Furthermore, the premiere will take place in 2025 in cinemas in Japan.
