CD Projekt Red officially revealed The Witcher 4 during The Game Awards 2024 event, surprising fans with a six-minute cinematic trailer. The game will mark the beginning of a new saga, with Ciri, Geralt of Rivia's adopted daughter, taking on the role of protagonist. The developer, known for successes such as Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), confirmed that the game will be a single-player open-world RPG.

In the storyline, players will follow Ciri on her journey to become a professional monster hunter. The Witcher 4 promises to be even darker and more brutal, exploring new technologies such as Unreal Engine 5 in a customized version, running on an as-yet-unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU.

Change of protagonist and new possibilities

This will be the first title in the series without Geralt as the main character, representing a major shift in the franchise's dynamic. According to Sebastian Kalemba, the game's director, this decision reflects the intention to explore new perspectives within the universe: "For a long time, we knew that Ciri would be the protagonist. We want to show what it truly means to become a witcher."

The trailer reveals some of Ciri's abilities, including the use of chains and magical powers, which could bring significant new gameplay features.

Despite the shift in narrative focus, Geralt's presence isn't completely ruled out. Cian Maher, lore designer at CD Projekt Red, mentioned that the character remains active in the events of The Witcher . He emphasized that Geralt "isn't going anywhere," indicating that the witcher could appear in future stories.

Cian Maher, a designer at CD Projekt Red, suggested that Geralt of Rivia may continue to be present in the series' universe. According to him, an epilogue in the book *Season of Storms *, which takes place in 1373, more than a century after the events of *The Witcher 3 *, describes a white-haired witcher hunting a monster, indicating that Geralt remains active in the world. This statement reinforces the possibility that the character will continue to appear in some way in future stories.

Although there is no confirmation regarding platforms or a release date, the game has already entered full production.
