Episode Analysis

Episode 12 of To Be Hero X , released on June 21st, marks the end of Queen's character arc. In just two episodes, the narrative reveals a bit of the heroine's past and explains her goals. The anime, which maintains an unusual and daring timeline and format, continues to hold onto some mysteries with the promise that there is a connection between the events.

In the previous episode, Queen was introduced as the most brilliant young woman in the history of the college. In her graduation speech, she says she wants to become a hero and bring order and justice to the world. Furthermore, she reveals that her goal is to destroy and surpass the trust index. Because of this, the DOS organization hires her to be the group's new hero.

In addition to Queen, episode 11 also introduces the hero X, who has been a mystery to viewers since the beginning of the anime, as his name, origin, and power remain unknown. According to the anime's official website, he doesn't belong to any organization. Furthermore, the characters in the narrative realize that there is no information about him, which confirms that absolutely everything about the hero is a mystery.

Queen participates in the duel for the title of X

The Queen character arc also features Bowa and Johnny, two heroes from the DOS organization. Bowa, who is among the ten most powerful heroes, participates in a tournament for the title of X and wins. However, she loses her position as the most powerful heroine when a mysterious man appears and quickly takes the position of X with his unknown and surprising power.

Queen's arc takes place around the same time as Lucky Cyan's story, at the moment when fear particles exist. After Bowa loses the tournament, she is furious about the defeat and suspects that Queen is behind it to take her position in the hero rankings. Thus, fearing being replaced, Bowa is dominated by fear particles, a substance containing negative energy that is released by the human body when a person is frightened.

The heroine Queen also fights for the title of X, but is defeated in seconds by the mysterious man. Throughout the episodes, it becomes clear that the character is intensely self-critical and wants to assume the position of X at any cost. However, when Lucky Cyan is hired by DOS, the two become friends and form a connection, which causes Queen to adopt a more relaxed personality.

Bowa is overwhelmed by fear particles and strikes Queen

Overcome by a devastating rage, Bowa confronts Queen. The fight between the two is surprising and dynamic. Furthermore, the vibrant colors highlight the characters' powers. Unlike other arcs, the conflict between Bowa and Queen doesn't feature a memorable soundtrack, but it compensates with its meticulous movement. The character design also stands out, especially when the heroes are wearing their costumes.

After defeating Bowa, Queen, who is seriously injured, is taken to the hospital. There, she remains unconscious for several days. With the support of Lucky Cyan and Johnny, Queen soon recovers and leaves the hospital. At the end of the episode, as the heroine and Lucky Cyan are heading off to enjoy their vacation, they encounter a giant monster on the way, and it's possible that it's related to the next story arc.

To Be Hero X: What to expect from the next episode?

With the conclusion of the Queen arc, it's time to introduce a new hero to the top ten most powerful ranking. According to the released schedule, the next heroine will be Loli, from the FOMO organization. The anime's official website describes the character as a girl with a strong sense of justice. Furthermore, they highlight her skills in mechanical engineering and long-distance running.

The anime To Be Hero X maintains a bold and unusual format, where each arc, with the exception of Lucky Cyan's story, ended with an incomplete and mysterious narrative. However, according to an interview published on the official website, Li Haolin, the director of the series, reveals that "from now on, I would like to gradually go back in time and portray the past of various characters and different timelines, connecting organizations, conspiracies, and people."

Li Haolin also states that Nice has not been forgotten and that the story before his death will still be told. The narrative structure of To Be Hero X is captivating and sparks curiosity in the viewer. Each arc and character introduced in the anime increases the audience's expectation of finally understanding past events. However, the anime's ending remains a mystery, as does the character X, who is likely a key element in understanding the narrative.

Episode 13 will be released on Saturday, June 28th, on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, dubbed in Portuguese.
