At the beginning of the episode, it's clear that the story begins shortly before the escape attempt from the previous chapter. Luo reveals to Lucky Cyan that the orphanage director was once a hero and that, now, he invests that dream in them. When the protagonist attempts to escape, it's clear that the director is distraught by the idea, as he sees Cyan as a means to become a hero again.
Lucky Cyan runs away from the orphanage and lives alone on the streets
While they try to defeat the orphanage director, who uses his power to prevent the two from escaping, Luo distracts him and encourages Cyan to flee. Just then, a truck speeds into the orphanage and crashes into Luo and the director. The girl is devastated, but seizes her chance and escapes the orphanage, promising herself that she will eventually return for her friend.
Upon escaping, Cyan takes with him Luo's guitar, which he received from the orphanage director. This guitar has an interesting characteristic: when played, green, light-like residue emits from the instrument. This peculiarity of the guitar will likely be explained in the future.
While out, Cyan buys a scratch-off ticket and tries her luck at winning the prize. However, she doesn't succeed. It's possible, then, that the next episode will explain how the protagonist's luck works, since she doesn't win the winning ticket.
Finally, Lucky Cyan, alone and penniless, begins to see music as a source of comfort and uses it as a means of earning money. However, some people recognize her as a sacred lady and spread the word on social media. Miji, the manager of the DOS agency, becomes interested in Cyan's potential as a heroine and asks one of her employees to track her down and make her an offer.
Since the E-Soul arc, the anime has introduced Lucky Cyan as a singer. Thus, the girl's episodes, in addition to recounting her past and journey to becoming a heroine, also showcase her artistic career. The episode's songs stand out for their emotional lyrics, which seem directed at Luo.
The new heroine and rising pop star
After agreeing to become a heroine, Lucky Cyan also thrives in her artistic career. At the end of the episode, Luo is trapped in the orphanage and hears Cyan singing on his radio. He is overjoyed that she has become a famous singer. However, the orphanage director appears and whispers something in Luo's ear that leaves him completely shaken.
The episode ends with an intriguing cliffhanger for the next chapter. The final scene reveals that some of the people at the orphanage are infected by a fungus that takes over their bodies.
To be Hero X: What to expect from the next episode?
The Truth About Good Luck will likely explain more about Lucky Cyan's powers and shed light on the fungus present at the end of episode 9. Additionally, the anime may reveal why Luo is shaken after the orphanage director whispers in his ear.
The narrative of To Be Hero X is increasingly mysterious. There are still unexplained points since the Lin Ling arc, such as Nice's death and the motive for Xiao Yueqing's murder. However, the director and screenwriter explained that, despite the arc changes, the events intertwine and lead to a cohesive conclusion. Furthermore, there's a change in animation style. According to the director, starting with the Lucky Cyan arc, the animation will be in 2D.
Episode 10, the last of the Lucky Cyan arc, will be released next Saturday, June 7th, on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, with Portuguese dubbing.
