Another world

Anime that involve traveling to another world often give a bad first impression to some viewers, as they are frequently labeled as clichés.

However, several anime in this category are excellent choices for anyone looking to watch a good anime in general. Check out some of our recommendations below:

5. Zero no Tsukaima

Synopsis

Zero no Tsukaima tells the adventures of Saito and Louise who, together, help their classmates and friends, occasionally facing life-threatening situations to save each other. Saito tries to find a way to return to Japan, even though he possesses a mysterious power that allows him to wield swords and other weapons to perform heroic feats. They also eventually discover the truth behind Louise's magical inability.

Final considerations

A very entertaining anime, but with its ups and downs, the anime has some episodes that are unnecessary for the main plot, which may end up immensely frustrating those who don't like "harem" anime, however the ending rewards us in a way that can move any viewer.

4. Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu

Synopsis

Natsuki Subaru, an ordinary teenager, meets a beautiful silver-haired girl from another world. Subaru wants to stay by her side, but the burden she carries is greater than Subaru can imagine. They face fierce monster attacks, betrayals, irrational violence… and ultimately, death. Subaru vows to defeat any enemy, any fate, all to protect her. And so, the poor, powerless boy obtains "Return by Death," a unique ability that allows the user to go back in time upon dying. Using this power, the past is lost and memories are rewritten.

Final considerations

This one is divisive; some may find it incredibly tiresome to watch, since the protagonist travels back in time multiple times to shape his destiny, while others may find the idea interesting and simply appreciate the work. In any case, the anime presents intriguing mysteries and good character development for the protagonist Subaru, who suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world.

3. Hataraku Maou-sama!

Synopsis

The Demon King Satan was just one step away from conquering the magical world of Ente Isla, but he was defeated by the heroine Emilia Justina and forced to go to another world: Earth in modern times. Due to the lack of magic in this world, Satan and his loyal squire Alsiel assume human forms. Now, under the name Sadao Maou, the Demon King needs to become a freelancer at a fast-food chain to survive and pay his expenses. From there, Sadao and Alsiel (now under the name Shiro Ashiya) begin to live as humans while planning to return to Ente Isla and thus dominate it and Earth. What he didn't count on was that Emilia would also come to Earth, with the goal of killing him.

Final considerations

The first encounter with this anime is something totally bizarre, as it begins with a serious narrative tone, but quickly reveals its intention to make the viewer laugh, and it succeeds in doing so masterfully. The 13 episodes of the anime go by so quickly, leaving the viewer wanting more. It's a shame that there's no confirmation of the anime's return; however, the light novel continues to be published to this day.

2. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!

Synopsis

After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's short and disappointing life should have ended, but he wakes up to find a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be Aqua, a goddess, and asks him if he would like to go to another world, taking only one thing from this world with him. Kazuma decides to take the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world full of adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma just wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of the problems in this new world, and the demon king won't ignore them for long…

Final considerations

Without a doubt, the great thing about this anime is how it manages to play with all the clichés of anime in this genre. The protagonist really manages to convey the idea that he is a truly ordinary person who has fallen headfirst into that world, and as more characters are introduced to the story, the jokes become increasingly funny.

1. Sword Art Online

another world

Synopsis

In the near future, a Massively Multiplayer Online Virtual Reality Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released, where players control their characters with their own bodies using a technological device called NerveGear. One day, the players discover they cannot log out of the game, as the game's creator is trapping them unless they reach the 100th floor of the Tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they will also die in real life. The fight for survival begins now…

Final considerations

This is undoubtedly one of the great pioneers of anime in this category. The first arc manages to convey well what the anime wants to get across; there's always that feeling of danger that someone important might die, in addition to fight scenes that are magnificently orchestrated, both in soundtrack and animation. It's undeniable that the story begins to show signs of weakening compared to the first season from the Alfheim Online arc onwards, but in the Alicization Saga, the author manages to develop an excellent narrative in a universe that now encompasses several very interesting and unique characters, not limited to just Kirito and Asuna.

The vast majority of the anime on this list can be officially watched via Crunchyroll.
