Comment by Mamoru Oshii
I wanted to do a "Girl Meets Girl" in a serious way. It's about human connection. That's why it's about "blood." There are some words, like "blood ties" and "blood friends," but I wanted to do a story about blood seriously. So it's "vampires." Sucking blood can be a symbolic act, but in many ways, I wanted to do a symbolic "blood" story. And dealing with vampires is a story about a different culture at the same time. It's a different culture, the so-called "Jingai" (Inhuman Existence). They are human, but not human. They are the sacrifice for another person as a kind of destiny, and they are also the existence that can only be lived at another person's expense. This is a story of a meeting of different existences and how they are connected. When it comes to the blood story, it tends to be dark, but I wanted to do it in a somewhat lighthearted way.
Vlad Love was scheduled to premiere mid-year, but was postponed due to COVID-19 . However, a special edition of the anime's first episode will air for free on official YouTube channel on December 18th.
