Nexon Games, in partnership with LoreVault studio, has officially announced Woochi the Wayfarer, a single-player action-adventure game set in Joseon-era Korea. The title is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but a release date has not yet been announced.

The team is developing the game in Unreal Engine 5 and basing the story on the classic literary work The Tale of Jeon Woochi. The plot follows the protagonist Jeon Woochi, a magician who confronts injustices and challenges corrupt authorities, combining historical and fantastical elements.

According to Nexon, Woochi the Wayfarer aims to offer an experience that combines references to traditional Korean culture with a narrative accessible to players from different countries. The game features scenarios and characters inspired by Joseon-era Korea, including folkloric monsters and settings faithful to the period.
The first teaser, just over two minutes long, alternates between scenes of mystery and tension. Highlights include Myoan, a shaman chanting an enigmatic song, and the silhouette of Woochi emerging from a dense forest. The video concludes with a direct confrontation between the two figures, suggesting a central conflict in the plot.
Collaboration and historical research
To ensure authenticity, the LoreVault team works in collaboration with experts in traditional Korean literature and music. Additionally, the team visited historical locations to capture architectural and cultural details and reproduced everything in high quality in the game.
Jung Jae-il composed the title's music, having previously composed the soundtracks for Parasite and Round 6. The compositions are influenced by traditional Korean music, thus creating a sonic identity aligned with the game's historical setting.
Woochi the Wayfarer will be released for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, but Nexon has not yet announced a release date. New information regarding gameplay and the release date should be revealed in the coming months.
