Published in Weekly Shōnen Sunday between 1988 and 1993, the manga had 24 collected volumes and became one of the first major works by Aoyama, the author of Detective Conan. Furthermore, the series was licensed in the West by Viz Media.

Synopsis:
The story follows Yaiba Kurogane, a young samurai raised by his father in the forest. When he returns to urban life in Japan, Yaiba faces the swordsman Takeshi Onimaru. However, after losing the duel, Onimaru comes into contact with a cursed katana and transforms into a powerful demon lord. Thus, Yaiba and his allies begin a journey against armies of evil creatures, also encountering characters from Japanese mythology.
The first TV adaptation consisted of 52 episodes, broadcast between 1993 and 1994 by Pastel. However, in April 2025, the work received a new version by Wit Studio, responsible for successes such as Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga. Now, the sequel promises to expand the samurai universe even further.
