Akane Kurokawa 's story in Oshi no Ko referenced the case of wrestler Hana Kimura , who committed suicide after suffering cyberbullying. However, the deceased wrestler's mother, Kyoko Kimura , criticized the anime's reference to her daughter's case, saying it was inappropriate.

The creators of Oshi no Ko never officially confirmed that Akane's story is inspired by the Hana Kimura case, but many fans believe the mangaka used that reference. This idea quickly spread online, eventually reaching Kimura's mother, who was disturbed by the case and expressed her opinion on Twitter as well.

 "I can't imagine how deeply hurt the people who care about Hana will be by using the true story as it is. Furthermore, anime distribution at this time when the anniversary of her death is approaching? I despise you from the bottom of my heart."

Synopsis:

The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old idol named Ai Hoshino . One day, Hoshino appears at his office, claiming to be pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. However, the idol refuses to abort; she wants to have both children. Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure will result in his premature death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in the arms of his beloved idol, Gorou discovers he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , Ai's newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversies, where talent doesn't always bring success.

Thus , Akasaka and Yokoyari began the manga in Shueisha 's Young Jump in 2020. Furthermore, volume 12 of the manga was published on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
