The symbolism behind the famous Japanese title

The original title of Koyoharu Gotouge is more than just a stylish name. "Kimetsu" combines the kanji "ki" (demon) and "metsu" (annihilation) , while "Yaiba" is an archaic term for sword or blade . A free translation would be something like "The Blade that Annihilates Demons ," which clearly represents the mission of the Demon Slayers, the group to which the protagonist Tanjiro Kamado . This explanation was given by the manga , Tatsuhiko Katayama, in an interview with the MANGA Plus website.
This choice of name is not random. On the contrary, it translates the essence of the narrative: the tireless fight against the forces of evil, personified in Muzan and his followers. Tanjiro and the other Hashira wield not only swords, but also hope.
