The recent anime The Eminence in Shadow ( Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! ) gained a legion of fans with just its first season, and as it prepares for the release of its second, the star voice actor behind the anime's main character revealed the surprising reason for the anime's worldwide success. The Eminence in Shadow quickly caught the attention of fans, as its main character, Cid Kagenou, is merely playing at being a hero.
During the Anime Expo 2023 event, Seiichiro Yamashita (who voices Cid Kagenou in the anime) opened up by saying that Eminence in Shadow has become much bigger as a result, thanks to the blending of cultures between Japan and international territories.
The Eminence in Shadow – The surprising reason for the anime's success revealed
“I feel like I’m representing Japan, haha,” Yamashita began. “I’m here in [Los Angeles] for the first time, and seeing the culture, it’s so different – just walking around and interacting with people. There’s a difference in personality, and I could feel that directly. The Japanese personality is a detail. Which culture is better – it doesn’t matter, Japan takes something and polishes it. I think that’s allowed anime to spread everywhere with its quality. The internet is obviously huge. It’s amazing now to see the community there, and the demand is there for [Eminence in Shadow]. The demand is global, and it’s met with a lot of laughter. Walking through [Anime Expo], I was so impressed to see the anime community. It’s powerful.”
