The International Manga Award was created in May 2007 at the initiative of Japan's then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taro Aso , to recognize Manga artists who have contributed to the dissemination of Manga culture around the world, and also to the promotion of international cultural exchange. . The Award has been held every year.
The best manga will be awarded the Gold Award. The other three works that stand out will be awarded the Silver Award. The winners will be invited by the Japan Foundation to travel to Japan to participate in the Awards Ceremony. There will be meetings with Manga artists to exchange ideas and visits to publishers.
