Amazon removes AI job opening for anime voice acting

Rafael Shinzo
My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

The pressure worked. Amazon position from its careers page AI Creative Directorjust hours after the negative backlash hit social media. The position involved expanding the use of artificial intelligence in dubbing anime, which reignited a sensitive debate in the industry.

Furthermore, fans, voice actors, and studios reacted immediately. Many recalled the case of 2025, when automated dubbing tests in titles like Banana Fish and Vinland Saga received harsh criticism for their lack of emotion and naturalness. Therefore, the fear of repeating a public mistake gained strength.

On the other hand, the retreat raises doubts. For some in the community, Amazon would have avoided a large-scale boycott and damage to its image. However, a more skeptical wing believes that the project remains active, just out of the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Japanese distributors remain resistant to the use of AI without creative consent. Therefore, the scenario calls for caution. For now, human voices remain protected, but the debate about AI in online anime is far from over.
