In an interview with K Manga , Kodansha's reading app, Isayama shared some interesting facts about his work process. Then he told how he created his characters, his monthly work rhythm and how he planned the ending of his manga.
“I thought about this plot from the beginning. Of course, not in too many details, but I thought about the general flow.
In the beginning, it was very likely that the story would end in two volumes. I was so desperate to know if the serialization would continue. After gaining some popularity, I thought of the desperate ending. I had this story in mind initially, but I started to question this direction.”
Synopsis:
Humans encountered Titans in Shiganshina District after years of peace. However, Eren, Mikasa and Armin, witness the appearance of the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan, who open a breach in Wall Maria. Thus, the Titans invade the city and wreak havoc, killing several people, including Eren's mother, who is devoured before her son's eyes. Eren then decides to take revenge on all the Titans by joining the Exploration Division.
Therefore, Hajime Isayama launched the manga in Bessatsu Shounen Magazine , from publisher Kodansha in 2009, ending in April 2021. The 34th and final volume was published in June 2021.
