Have you ever stopped to think about which countries consume the most anime in the world? Taking advantage of the Republic Proclamation holiday here in Brazil, we decided to break from routine and bring you something special.

A list of places where the love for anime transcends borders. After researching online, we gathered interesting facts and prepared this ranking full of trivia to celebrate the occasion in a fun and geeky way. Let's check it out!

Popularity of Anime Around the World

First, as you can see from the table, this information was collected in October 2020. That is, it's been over a year since this information was released, and we haven't found any more recent data on the same topic. In any case, here are the 10 countries where anime is most popular!

On the other hand, we can mention several countries that are truly surprising to see on the list. For example, we can highlight the Philippines and Indonesia, countries I didn't imagine would have such a high rate of adoption of Japanese culture. In any case, there are still many variables to consider, such as their population size, average age, and other factors that affect their placement on the list.

1. Japan

So, let's first highlight Japan, which is the center of origin for most anime and manga worldwide. The Japanese have dominated the entertainment industry for years, but recently we've seen their neighbors also excel, with works like Tower of God, The God of High School, and Solo Leveling.

Finally, Japan certainly couldn't be left out of this list, where we can highlight its 9th place ranking. However, I honestly believed it would be in the top 5, due to being the origin of most of the works. Anyway, perhaps the high workload or their rigid culture affect the otaku there.

2. China

Now, let's mention China, which is in 1st place on the list! It's also worth mentioning that it's the most populous country in the world, with over 1 billion inhabitants; in other words, 1/7 of the world's population lives within China. Furthermore, it's also among the 5 countries with the largest territory of all! Therefore, these factors certainly influenced its ranking.

3. Brazil

And finally, let's talk about our beloved country. It's very well represented in 4th place. It's really great to see how well Japanese culture has been received here in the West, especially in Brazil. Furthermore, streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime are increasingly investing in anime, which has undoubtedly increased the number of fans of Japanese works.

Well folks, that was our very special list in celebration of the Proclamation of the Republic. So, I hope you enjoyed it, leave a comment and enjoy the rest of the holiday.
