Japanese developer Cygames has announced the full acquisition of Griot Groove, a studio specializing in 3DCG animation and visual effects. This move aims to strengthen the quality of the company's video productions, expanding its reach into anime, games, and advertising projects.
Founded in 1996, Griot Groove works with motion capture and digital animation in various areas of entertainment. According to sources, the studio has participated in well-known productions such as Attack on Titan Final Season, Chainsaw Man , and Tokyo Ghoul, solidifying its presence in the Japanese CG market.
Cygames focused on technology and AI

In addition to the acquisition, the group had already been investing in technology. In 2023, Griot Groove created the company Black Relic, focused on production with artificial intelligence in Japan and Spain, expanding its international reach.
Cygames itself reinforced this direction by founding the Cygames AI Studio in December. Thus, the subsidiary works on developing safe solutions for creators, maintaining its policy of not using generative AI in products without prior notice.
Restructuring and global presence
Another important point involves internal changes. Cygames Pictures changed its name to Cypic after becoming a subsidiary of CyberAgent, also marking the studio's 10th anniversary. The company continues to expand operations outside of Japan, with branches in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Furthermore, CyberAgent maintains strict guidelines on the use of generative AI, avoiding legal risks and reinforcing best practices in content creation. Therefore, the strategy indicates a balance between technological innovation and creative control in productions.
