The wait is over for Death Stranding fans. Kojima Productions has confirmed that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will be released on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. In addition, an extended trailer has been released, showcasing gameplay details, setting, and characters.
The graphics, captured directly from a standard PS5, drew attention for their visual quality and cinematic elements characteristic of Hideo Kojima's work. Pre-orders for the game begin on March 17th; however, those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector's Edition will have 48 hours of early access before the official release.

Expanded plot and new challenges in a devastated world
The narrative of Death Stranding 2 continues the events of the first game, but with an even more complex approach. Sam Bridges, again played by Norman Reedus, embarks on a dangerous journey through a desolate world full of mysteries. His objective goes beyond delivering supplies: now, he must deal with the consequences of the connections he has made and face even greater threats.
During the game's presentation at SXSW, Hideo Kojima highlighted the difference in approach between the two titles. According to him, while the first Death Stranding explored isolation and the need for connection, the sequel is a reflection on the future of humanity after the Covid-19 pandemic. The central idea of the game is to question what comes after the rebuilding of connections, bringing up philosophical and existential dilemmas typical of Kojima's works.
The cast of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach includes Léa Seydoux (Fragile), Troy Baker (Higgs), Elle Fanning (Tomorrow), Shioli Kutsuna (Rainy), and George Miller (Tarman). They all play essential roles in the plot, deepening the relationships between the characters and the impact of their choices on the post-apocalyptic world.
Enhanced visuals with Decima Engine and immersive environment
The game is being developed using the Decima Engine, the same engine used in Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and the first Death Stranding. This graphics engine, created by Guerrilla Games, is responsible for the impressive level of detail in the environments, character modeling, and realistic lighting.
The released images show a vast world, full of cinematic landscapes, with dynamic weather effects and an atmosphere that reinforces the feeling of isolation and challenge. According to Kojima, the physics and interaction with the environment have been improved, providing an even more immersive experience for players.

In the trailer, Sam can be seen exploring different terrains, facing storms, and dealing with hostile creatures. The game promises to maintain the strategic movement mechanics of the first title, but with new tools and vehicles to facilitate traversing long distances.
Special editions and pre-orders for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach begin in March
Players will be able to choose between different editions of the game, including the Collector's Edition, which includes exclusive items. In addition to a digital copy of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, this special edition will include:
- A statue of Magellan Man
- Art card set
- Seven exclusive in-game items
- Special message from Hideo Kojima
The Digital Deluxe Edition will offer exclusive bonuses for players, including special outfits, vehicle skins, and other in-game items. Both editions guarantee 48 hours of early access, allowing players to explore the game before its official release.
Music will be a key element in the game experience
Just like in the first Death Stranding, the soundtrack will play a fundamental role in building the game's atmosphere. Kojima invited Woodkid, a renowned musician and art director, to compose one of the game's main tracks, titled "To the Wilder.".
Woodkid revealed that he spent time immersed in the world of Death Stranding 2 before creating the music, seeking inspiration in the game's narrative and aesthetics. The collaboration reinforces the cinematic tone of the franchise and the importance of the soundtrack in the player experience.
In addition, Kojima Productions announced the global concert tour “The Strands of Harmony World Tour,” which will bring the Death Stranding soundtrack to stages around the world. The tour will visit 19 cities, with the first performance scheduled for November 8, 2025, at the Sydney Opera House.
High expectations for one of the biggest releases of 2025
With a deeper storyline, improved graphics, and a thought-provoking philosophical approach, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach positions itself as one of the most anticipated games of the year. Furthermore, the combination of Hideo Kojima's unique vision with a talented cast and an immersive soundtrack promises to deliver a memorable experience for players.
Pre-orders begin on March 17th, and the game will be officially released on June 26th, 2025. It remains to be seen if the sequel will surpass the impact of the first title, which has won over millions of fans worldwide since its release in 2019.
