Nintendo is still keeping details about the Switch 2 under wraps, but recently released documents from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have revealed previously unseen technical specifications for the console. This information, registered as part of the certification process, indicates significant improvements in connectivity, charging, and accessory compatibility.

One of the highlights is the adoption of Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless connection standard that replaces the Wi-Fi 5 of the original model. This change should bring faster internet speeds and greater stability. This will reduce lag in online matches and improve download times for updates and games. However, the records do not mention support for Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, which offer additional bands and less interference. Therefore, it may suggest that Nintendo opted for a balance between performance and cost.

In addition, the Switch 2 will continue to support NFC (Near Field Communication), the technology used to read Amiibos. The sensor remains located on the right Joy-Con, as in the previous model, ensuring compatibility with the collectible figures that unlock additional content in Nintendo games.

Another interesting point is the presence of two USB-C ports, positioned at the bottom and top of the console. This new feature suggests greater flexibility for gamers, who will be able to charge the device in both portable and docked modes without limitations.

Charging and performance can be improved on the Switch 2.

The documents also indicate that the Switch 2 will have a maximum charging power of 15V, similar to the first model. However, there is mention of a capacity of up to 20V, which suggests two possibilities: faster charging or a greater power supply when the console is docked.

In the original Switch, the dock allowed the processor to operate at higher power, improving the graphics performance of games when the console was connected to the TV. With the inclusion of an extra USB-C port, there are indications that the new model may adopt a more efficient power system, guaranteeing superior performance in docked mode.

It's still unclear whether the Switch 2 will feature a higher-capacity battery or if the processor's energy efficiency will allow for longer playtimes without compromising battery life.

Registration reinforces rumors about design and accessories

The FCC documents also reveal an important detail: the Switch 2's internal code. Nintendo designated the console as BEE-001, while the Joy-Cons received the identifications BEE-014 (right) and BEE-012 (left).

This follows a naming pattern adopted by the company for previous consoles, such as the GameCube (DOL), the Wii (RVL), and the original Switch (HAC). The numbering confirms that the Joy-Cons will continue to exist as separate accessories, but it doesn't clarify whether there will be significant changes to the design or ergonomics of the controllers.

Another factor that hasn't yet been detailed is compatibility with accessories from the original Switch. While the presence of NFC and the dock suggests continuity, it's still unknown whether the old Joy-Cons will be compatible with the new console or if Nintendo will release a new, improved version.

Official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 may happen in April.

Even with the revelation of these technical details, Nintendo has not yet confirmed the official release date for the Switch 2. However, rumors suggest that the company will make an important announcement on April 2, 2025.

The expectation is that the event will reveal details about the console's final design, its complete specifications, and any potential changes to the controllers and possible launch games. With the success of the first Switch and the growing competition in the hybrid console market, Nintendo is expected to focus on a model that balances innovation and accessibility.

Meanwhile, fans and analysts are closely watching for new leaks and official registrations, awaiting confirmation of specifications such as processing power, storage capacity, and support for advanced graphics technologies. If the trend of Wi-Fi 6 and the new charging architecture is any indication, the Switch 2 could represent a strategic advancement for Nintendo in the hybrid console segment.
