The new adaptation of Ghost in the Shell has finally received its release date. The TV series, produced by Science SARU will premiere on July 7, 2026, and will be available simultaneously on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and regions.

The anime, titled The Ghost in the Shell, will also be broadcast on Japanese television as part of the Ka-Anival!! block on Kansai TV and Fuji TV. Shortly after the local broadcast, the episodes will be available on the streaming platform, expanding the global reach of the classic cyberpunk created by Masamune Shirow.

New team takes over the franchise

Thus, the direction marks Mokochan's debut at the helm of an anime series. He has previously worked as a storyboard artist and animator on titles such as DANDADAN and Tatami Time Machine Blues. The scripts are the responsibility of Toh Enjoe, known for his work on Godzilla Singular Point and Space Dandy.

The character designs were developed by Shūhei Handa, while the soundtrack features names like Taisei Iwasaki, Ryō Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka. The production also includes the participation of Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production IG.

Special screening before the premiere

Before the official release, the first two episodes will have special screenings at international events. The production will participate in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, as well as an exclusive session during Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 4th.

However, originally announced in 2024, the project also marks a new chapter for the franchise following the death of voice actress Atsuko Tanaka, the voice of Motoko Kusanagi for decades.
