Journalist expresses discomfort with Mitsuri's breasts from Demon Slayer
However, the journalist comments the following in her social media post:
The recent season of the anime 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba' is already ranked fourth on Netflix in Germany. The depiction of female characters with baby faces and large breasts has sparked debate among Germans, including children, not because of sexism, but because of its unnatural and disconcerting nature. This type of representation, sometimes present in Japanese anime and manga , is not considered sexy or erotic, but rather a distortion of sexuality.
While it's no secret that some criticism has been leveled at the Kimetsu no Yaiba series for portraying female characters with childlike appearances but mature bodies, often highlighted by their voluminous breasts, recent examples include Mitsuri Kanroji , known as the Pillar of Love, and protagonist Nezuko Kamado , whose demonic transformation causes her to shed her childlike form and grow up a bit (and, evidently, increase in size as well).
Although there have been several complaints about this aspect, this is perhaps the first time that a prominent figure in Japan and on social media has spoken out on the matter.
Riko Muranaka's post quickly racked up millions of interactions on X (Twitter), generating a variety of comments among anime and series fans.
- I wish I could honestly say I don't like it, and that's it. If both adults and children hate the series, how did it reach fourth place in the national rankings?
- Are they referring to a sensual woman known as Mitsuri Kanroji?
- Demons don't exist in reality, what's the problem?
- At first, I thought the Germans didn't want to see something like that. A story where the protagonist loses his temper to his enemies—I don't think they're prepared for that kind of thing.
- For foreigners, series like Prime Video's "Invincible" are rated R18. In Japan, it's like a race to see who can produce the most extremely violent content, and children can watch them without any problems.
- It seems there are some people who are not satisfied with Kimetsu no Yaiba's designs.
- If you don't like it, don't watch it. It seems millions of Germans watch it anyway.
Demon Slayer Season 1 premiered in April 2019, becoming a hit with the film. The second season premiered on December 5, 2021, in Japan. Finally, Season 3 premiered on Crunchyroll following the release of the film To the Swordsmith Village – World Tour on February 2, 2023, in Japan.
Additionally, the first episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc season 4 will premiere in Japan on Fuji TV in Spring 2024.
