After a decade of waiting, the anime GATE is back with a new season titled GATE Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, or simply GATE 2: Tides of Conflict. The announcement excited fans, as the continuation promises to expand the universe with naval battles and new political developments.
Studio M2 takes over production of the new season

Unlike the first season, the animation will be handled by Studio M2, known for their acclaimed work on PLUTO. Therefore, much of the original team returns, including Tatsuhiko Urahata on scripts, guaranteeing the same narrative quality. The main team also includes director Toru Takahashi and character designer Shigeru Fujita. In addition, the production has the collaboration of GENCO.
What to expect from the anime GATE?
The plot now shifts to the sea, highlighting the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Therefore, fans can expect grand conflicts on the high seas, coupled with intense political dramas in the already familiar fantasy world.
The series creator, Takumi Yanai, expressed his excitement about the new anime. In his words, each chapter was written with dedication, carrying feelings in every line. Undeniably, the series has a history that has captivated fans. Originally published online between 2006 and 2009, Gate received a print version from AlphaPolis in 2010. Soon after, the manga in 2011, followed by spin-offs and the anime in 2015.
Therefore, the new phase is based on the sequel light novel released in 2017, promising to further develop the universe of the work.
