The creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, revealed previously unreleased details about the behind-the-scenes story of his manga, explaining why the conclusion seemed so rushed to many fans.

The series, which surpassed One Piece in sales for two consecutive years, ended in 2024 with chapter 271, concluding the Shinjuku Showdown. However, despite its success, some plot points—such as the Mergerwere ultimately left out.

Gege Akutami fell ill at the end of the manga

During the One Piece Day, Gege surprised everyone by participating with illustrations of the Five Elders, important characters from Eiichiro Oda's work. However, along with the artwork, he also shared a revealing message: near the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen, he became seriously ill.

According to Gege, Oda-sensei helped him by recommending a hospital, which enabled his recovery. As a way of thanking him, he decided to reciprocate by creating special illustrations for One Piece.

Towards the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, I fell ill and was in a difficult situation. Oda-sensei referred me to a hospital. After recovering and completing the work, I wanted to express my gratitude and chose to repay him through my work, said Gege.

Where can I watch and read Jujutsu Kaisen?

The complete manga is available digitally on the Manga Plus. The anime, with two seasons already released and a movie, can be watched on Crunchyroll. Therefore, the highly anticipated 3rd season does not yet have a confirmed release date.
