Ghost in the Shell, or rather The Ghost of the Future, is a 1995 Japanese animated film in the science fiction and action genres, directed by Mamoru Oshii and written by Kazunori Ito and Masamune Shirow. It was one of the main inspirations for the Matrix trilogy and other films of the genre.
The film's story takes place in the distant future and begins when a police group tries to find a hacker who steals information from the government.
