According to a publication by Rachel Bullock Casting, the live-action Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi, has found a filming location, starting in January 2016 at Stone Street Studios in Wellington, New Zealand.
Dreamworks and Paramount are financing and producing the film. Paramount will handle the international release of the film, and Dreamworks will handle the release along with Disney. The film is scheduled to premiere on March 31, 2017.
Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Lucy) has signed on to star in this adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga.
