New characters expand the story
Among the new additions to the cast are Minami Tsuda as Risa, Lara's fourth oldest sister, and Kazutomi Yamamoto as Kōta, a character who frequently appears alongside her. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 5, 2026, with international streaming confirmed by Crunchyroll during the season.
The series features Hana Hishikawa as Lara, alongside names like Nana Kawaishi, Rica Fukami, Ayumu Murase , and Masaki Terasoma. The animation is produced by Kinema Citrus, known for works such as Made in Abyss.
A modern retelling of The Little Mermaid

Loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's classic "The Little Mermaid," Goodbye, Lara follows a mermaid who longed to be loved by a human. However, after her death, she is reborn 200 years later in modern-day Japan, more precisely in Lake Biwa, in Shiga Prefecture.
