Rockstar Games has revealed that GTA 6 will feature a new expansive map set in the fictional state of Leonida. Vice City, inspired by Miami (USA), will be the central point of the narrative, accompanied by five new explorable regions. The game is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, with versions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

The new setting promises a rich experience with diverse scenarios, ranging from wilderness to decaying urban areas and industrial centers. Players will be able to explore swampy zones, tropical archipelagos, industrial areas, and national parks, each with its own characteristics and unique challenges.

Vice City remains the center of the action

Vice City returns as the vibrant and chaotic metropolis that has marked generations of gamers. Inspired by Miami, the city maintains the contrast between luxury and decay, with glittering beaches, art deco architecture, and multicultural neighborhoods like Little Cuba. The Port of VC also reappears as an important center of economic and criminal activity.

The urban setting reflects the excess and diversity of the United States, serving as a backdrop for the story of Jason and Lucia, protagonists forced to survive amidst a criminal conspiracy. The plot promises intense action and a narrative centered on human relationships.

Leonida Keys archipelago reinforces tropical climate

To the south of the map lies Leonida Keys, a group of tropical islands that blends natural beauty with hidden dangers. The location is reminiscent of regions like the Florida Keys, with beachfront bars and a relaxed atmosphere. Despite its peaceful appearance, the surrounding waters conceal threats and mysteries.

Rockstar's goal is to strike a balance between tranquility and tension, creating an environment where the player never feels completely safe. This contrast reinforces the unstable and unpredictable atmosphere that defines GTA VI.

Grassrivers wetlands reveal hostile nature

Grassrivers, described as Leonida's untamed jewel, is a vast swampy region teeming with mangroves and wildlife. The famous alligators are not the only dangers: there are human and natural threats scattered throughout the territory.

The setting should explore a darker and more mysterious atmosphere, focusing on exploration and survival. Rockstar is betting on visual diversity and the creation of distinct atmospheres for each region of the game.

Port Gellhorn portrays decay and resistance

Port Gellhorn represents the forgotten coast of Leonida, marked by abandonment and precariousness. Decaying motels, closed parks, and empty shopping centers make up the environment. The city lives a new reality, sustained by cheap drinks, painkillers, and motorcyclists.

The crumbling urban landscape serves as both social commentary and fertile ground for parallel storylines. Despite its decline, its population possesses resilience, which could influence the dynamics of the story.

Ambrosia blends industrial tradition and crime

Ambrosia is the industrial heart of Leonida, notably featuring the Allied Crystal refinery, its main source of employment. The presence of motorcycle gangs reveals the conflicts between law and order and the underworld, a typical scenario in the series' games.

The city symbolizes the struggle for power and survival amidst inequality. This tension is one of the narrative pillars of the new game, reinforcing the critical and provocative tone characteristic of the franchise.

Mount Kalaga takes the player to the isolation of the north

In the far north of Leonida lies Mount Kalaga, a mountainous region with trails for hunting, fishing, and off-road sports. The forests are home to eccentric and reclusive characters, offering a distinct experience from urban areas.

This territory expands the freedom of exploration and contrasts with the fast pace of Vice City. Rockstar is betting on geographical variety to keep the player immersed throughout the journey.
