franchise Mobile Suit Gundam SEED has officially confirmed the theatrical release of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom ZERO, a new prequel tied to the Gundam SEED FREEDOM. The announcement was made during the “Gundam Conference Spring 2026” broadcast, held by Bandai Namco Filmworks this Friday.

According to producer Naohiro Ogata, the Gundam Seed Freedom ZERO project had been in existence for about 20 years. Director Mitsuo Fukuda previously revealed that the script was written by Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita during the development of Gundam SEED FREEDOM. Furthermore, some of the storyboards were already completed before the production of the film, which was released in 2024.
Fukuda also commented that the project originally started as an OVA. However, the team decided to rework the idea into a cinematic experience. Another interesting detail involves the voice acting, which was reportedly recorded quite some time ago.
Gundam movie continues to break records

The feature film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM premiered in Japan in January 2024 and topped the box office on its opening weekend. The production sold over 634,000 tickets in just three days, becoming the biggest opening in the history of the Gundam franchise in Japanese cinemas.
