NTT Security Japan 's OSINT monitoring team revealed on August 7 that Kurdish hackers (an ethnic group from Turkey) claimed responsibility for cyberattacks against Japanese companies. Among the targets are Toei Animation ( One Piece ), Production IG ( Kaiju No. 8 ), and David Production ( JoJo's Bizarre Adventure ).

Attacks and stated motivations

According to the 13-page report published by NTT Security, the group released messages on networks such as X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram, explaining the reason for the DDoS attacks that began in 2023.

The posts, dated August 4 and 5, 2025, cite alleged discrimination against Kurds in Japan. Specifically, they mention pressure from Turkey to expel them and accusations that Japanese companies produce "anti-Kurdish" anime and publicly burn Kurdish flags.

One of the profiles on X reported the hacker attack on Toei Animation:

"We took down the website of Toei Animation, the production company behind Dragon Ball and One Piece."

On Telegram, another message said:

"You fascist and stupid Japanese, stop defaming the Kurds with your anime series."

NTT points out that the group has formed an alliance with pro-Russian hacktivists and maintains frequent attacks against Turkey, Iran, Armenia , and neighboring countries as well. However, it is unclear whether the hostility is focused exclusively on the aforementioned studios or if they were chosen because they are high-profile targets.

Therefore, NTT Security is part of the NTT Group, a telecommunications giant and parent company of publishers and distributors such as NTT DOCOMO (Manga Mirai) and NTT Solmare (MangaPlaza, Obey Me!).
