The creators of Oshi no Ko never officially confirmed that Akane's story is inspired by Hana Kimura's case, but many fans believe that the mangaka used this reference. So this idea quickly spread across the internet until it reached Kimura's mother, who was uncomfortable with the case and expressed her opinion on Twitter as well.

“I can't imagine how deeply hurt people who care about Hana will be by using the real story as it is. Furthermore, anime distribution at this time when her death anniversary is approaching? I despise you from the bottom of my heart.”
