After ten years, Hollywood is interested in adapting the card game Magic: The Gathering to the cinema. 20th Century Fox is purchasing the adaptation rights along with Hasbro .
According to international sources, Simon Kinberg , well-known producer and screenwriter of the great X-Men films, will be the producer. The idea is to create a potential fantasy franchise in the vein of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
Magic: The Gathering was created in 1993 by Richard Garfield for Wizards of the Coast and to this day remains the most influential collectible card game on the market. The card game revolves around duels between sorcerers who use spells and characters represented on richly illustrated cards, divided into white, blue, red, green and black, to defeat each other. With thousands of cards and deck-building options (as the game's decks are called), players have countless possibilities for strategy or playing style.
