MangaDex will remain active after the removal of manga

Rafael Shinzo
My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

Despite recent DMCA takedown notices that resulted in the removal of approximately 7,000 manga, the MangaDex has officially confirmed that it will not be shutting down. The platform reassured its user base and clarified doubts about the dispute and removal process.

Since mid-May 2025, MangaDex has faced an increasing volume of copyright notifications. However, the team emphasizes that it will remain active, with continuous improvements to the system. Furthermore, they denied any intention of becoming a new "Crunchyroll," recalling that the streaming service originated as a pirate site before becoming legal.

However, the site revealed its connection to NamiComi, an emerging platform for submitting manga and webcomics. Although NamiComi has taken over the management of the domain and website, no financial transaction has taken place. As explained, this partnership aims to ensure the sustainability of the project, given the rapid growth of its readership.

Impact and new measures adopted by MangaDex

Furthermore, in April of this year, the site recorded over 68 million monthly visits, a 31% increase compared to February. Therefore, new rules have been implemented to curb excessive profits from unlicensed content.

MangaDex competitors shut down operations

Undeniably, the closure of aggregators like Reaper Scans, following an order from Kakao, has brought even more attention to the issue. Meanwhile, MangaDex seeks to remain transparent and functional.
