The July issue of Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Zenon magazine announced on May 25th that manga will end in two more chapters. If there are no further breaks, the manga should conclude in July.

The manga began its final arc, Mononoke: Bakeneko, in March 2018, and the first of two volumes was released on December 20, 2018.

The 2007 anime Mononoke is a spinoff of the anime Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales. Specifically, it follows the medicine seller “Bakeneko” from the Goblin Cat arc. The anime has five arcs, the last of which is titled “Bakeneko”.

The original manga adaptation by Ninagawa, which Square Enix published in two compiled volumes in 2008, also followed the "Bakeneko" arc of the anime.

Ninagawa went on to draw manga adaptations for the other four anime arcs, which Tokuma Shoten published instead of Square Enix. Tokuma Shoten published the most recent arc, Mononoke: Nopperabo (Faceless Monster), in a compiled volume in November 2017.

The original Mononoke anime is streamed on Crunchyroll and other streaming services.
