The 5th season of Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume's Book of Friends) by author Yuki Midorikawa has been announced. The new series will be called Natsume Yuujinchou Go and will premiere on TV this fall.
The team from the other seasons returns, with the exception of the animation studio. Takahiro Omori (Durarara!!) is the chief director at Studio Shuka (Durarara!! ×2), and Kotomi Deai (The Rolling Girls) is the director.
The original story follows Takashi Natsume, who is cursed with the ability to see spirits called Youkai, a power inherited from his grandmother Reiko. After her death, Reiko leaves her grandson a book containing the names of the spirits she had captured in her battles against them (Yōkai). The Book of Friends is a highly valued item in the spirit world, and the spirits constantly haunt Takashi.
The fourth season premiered in 2012, animated by Brains Base studio.
