Nintendo Announces Surprise Star Fox 64 Remake for Switch 2

Nintendo announced during the new Nintendo Direct the remake of Star Fox 64 , now simply called Star Fox . The classic, originally released on the Nintendo 64, will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th with updated graphics, online multiplayer, and new gameplay features.

The remake retains the core structure of the 1997 game, including space battles and the alternate route system. However, the new version adds brand-new cinematic scenes, fully voiced dialogue, and an orchestrated soundtrack for the campaign mode.

In addition to the traditional campaign, the game will feature a new Challenge Mode . In this mode, players can revisit previously completed levels while fulfilling extra objectives at different difficulty levels. The game will also support the Joy-Con 2 mouse controllers .

Another highlight is the competitive multiplayer mode with 4 vs. 4 battles. Players will be able to compete in online matches, create private rooms, and even use the GameShare via GameChat. It will also be possible to divide roles between driver and gunner in local or online cooperative mode.

Originally released in 1997, Star Fox 64 has received several remakes over the years, including Star Fox 64 3D on the Nintendo 3DS and Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. However, the franchise remains one of Nintendo's best-known space series since its debut on the Super Nintendo in 1993.
