The anime Red River, an adaptation of Chie Shinohara's classic shoujo manga , has received a new promotional visual and confirmed seven new characters in its cast. According to the official website, the series will premiere in Japan on July 7th, produced by Tatsunoko Production studio.

Among the announced characters are Kikkuri, servant of Prince Kail, as well as the sisters Hadi, Ryui, and Shala. The anime also introduced Kash, Rusafa, and Mittannamuwa, military leaders of the Hittite Empire. The protagonist Yuri will be voiced by Mirai Tachibana, while Wataru Katō plays Kail Muršili.

The project is directed by Kōsuke Kobayashi, known for his work on Waccha PriMagi!.The scripts are supervised by Yoriko Tomita, of My Dress-Up Darling. Yoshihisa Hirano, a composer associated with various action and fantasy anime, is working on the soundtrack.
The story blends romance and time travel
Published between 1995 and 2002 in Sho-Comi magazine, the manga follows Yuri, a Japanese student who ends up transported to the ancient Middle East after a mysterious event involving water. However, she finds herself caught up in the political and religious conflicts of the Hittite Empire.
The series had 28 published volumes and recently returned to the market in omnibus editions by Viz Media. In addition, the franchise received a theatrical adaptation by the Takarazuka Revue company in 2018.
