According to an interview with Sega CEO Sammy Holdings, the company has plans with Sony Pictures to create a live-action/animated Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with a release date set for 2018.
Currently, Sonic Boom, produced by the French company OuiDo! Productions, premiered on Cartoon Network in 2014 and was accompanied by two new video games: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS. A game called Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will be released for Nintendo 3DS in September of this year.
In 1996, SEGA released an OVA called Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie.
