The classic visual novel Steins;Gate will receive a new version with a release date set for August 20, 2026. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, featuring graphical improvements and new, never-before-seen scenes.

Furthermore, the developer MAGES. released the official opening sequence of the game and a video showcasing the use of the E-Mote system, an M2 technology that adds detailed animations to 2D characters. This feature has already appeared in other well-known visual novels in the Japanese market.

Steins;Gate: Visual recreates Akihabara from 2010

Artist huke redesigned the characters' clothing, accessories, and illustrations for this edition. The settings were also redone to represent Akihabara in 2010 with more detail, including locations that did not appear in the original version released in 2009.

The company also confirmed support for text in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. However, voice acting will remain exclusively in Japanese. The project was initially planned for 2025 but was eventually postponed to 2026.

The franchise is still alive after 15 years

Created by MAGES., the franchise inspired the famous 2011 anime, as well as the film Steins;Gate – The Movie – Load Region of Déjà Vu and the alternative series Steins;Gate 0 in 2018. As such, the universe has also received adaptations in manga, spin-offs, and various derivative games.

In 2024, a special 15th-anniversary video already indicated that the series would continue. Furthermore, a live-action adaptation produced in Hollywood has been in development since its official announcement in 2020.
