However, the first season premiered in July 2025 exclusively on Netflix with the animation CygamesPictures (Princess Connect! Re:Dive).
Synopsis:
Yoshiki and Hikaru are two teenagers living in a small rural town in Japan. Despite having opposite personalities and very different interests, their friendship is deep and sincere. However, on a fateful winter day, Hikaru suffers a fatal injury while hiking alone in the mountains. Before dying, he is found by a mysterious supernatural entity that consumes him, assuming his physical form.
The manga, written and illustrated by Mokumokuren , began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten 's Young Ace Up in August 2021. Mokumokuren first conceived The Summer Hikaru Died while studying for exams and later began posting drawings on Twitter, which led the Young Ace Up editorial department to approach Mokumokuren to serialize the manga via the Young Ace Up website.
