The manga Ubel Blatt debuted in 2004, created by Etorouji Shiono, and has garnered a loyal fanbase over the years. Now, the anime adaptation has finally arrived, produced by Satelight and Staple Entertainment , bringing the world of the "Seven Heroes" to the screen.

However, one of the biggest changes noticed by fans was the removal of some of the most daring scenes from the original work. In a recent interview, director Takashi Naoya revealed the reason behind these decisions.

The manga Ubel Blatt is known for its dark and brutal approach, including violent battles and erotic scenes that impact its narrative. However, for the anime version, the team chose to cut these parts, even excluding two important story arcs. This resulted in the absence of certain memorable villains and confrontations from the original work. Despite this, the characteristic violence of the series was maintained in the version available on Amazon Video .

In an interview with Anime News Network , Takashi Naoya explained that from the beginning he was aware of the erotic elements in Übel Blatt's manga and discussed with the studio, the committee, and the original creator how to handle them. According to him, the priority was to focus on the protagonist Köinzell , exploring his journey of revenge and his emotional growth throughout the plot.

“We wanted to emphasize his evolution as he overcomes his rage and learns to trust again,” the director explained. “That’s why we decided to remove the erotic elements and proceed without them. Apart from that, we tried to stay as faithful as possible to the original work.”.

Furthermore, Naoya highlighted that anime adaptations often require cuts due to time constraints. In the case of Ubel Blatt , it was necessary to restructure some parts of the story to create a suitable pace and reinforce the main theme: Köinzell's redemption and the rebirth of his confidence.
