How about you come and check out a little more about the salaries of manga? Comic LO conducted this interview, which is causing quite a stir. According to them, the financial return that most authors receive is very meager. So, enough talk, let's check out the news:

First, we had the following question: “Why do specialized journals pay authors so little? Are the publishers ripping them off?”

Therefore, the answer was very clear and concise: “Simply because magazines are cheap. Comic LO magazine costs 1,000 yen (US$9) per issue, including tax, and that's still very cheap! On the other hand, a doujinshi (self-published manga) costs 500 yen (US$4) for about 30 pages. So if you calculate that, an issue of Comic LO would cost 5,000 yen (US$44) for the same price. So, what a blessing it would be if all readers paid 5,000 yen per month! But, that's unlikely to happen. The market is different, so writers and readers are free to choose what they want to read/publish and where to read/publish.”

The second question was: "The author writing for Comic LO knows he could earn more with doujinshi, but the publishers won't let him do that, right?"

So, once again, the answer was quite straightforward: “We don’t know what the authors really think, but we believe that many are simply interested in publishing their work in Comic LO. Because not all manga artists are good at drawing or selling doujinshi. Furthermore, we know that doujinshi evolves in relation to trends. In other words, self-publishing manga is exhausting. For those who simply want to draw manga and have a stable income, sometimes a specialized magazine is the best option.”

So, folks, what do you think of all this? We simply appreciate all the work that has been created, but we don't see what the creators go through to make it. Leave a comment with your opinion and until next time!
