According to the Nintendo Digital Event at E3, Reggie Fils-Aime announced a new way to use NFC technology: through Amiibos. These are miniature figures of game characters that interact with the Wii U console, where the figures send and receive data in this connection with the console, via the GamePad's NFC reader.
Amiibo will initially launch with compatibility for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but there will also be figure interactivity with Mario Kart 8 and several other games that will be released compatible with this technology.
In 2015, a peripheral will be released that will serve as a bridge for the miniature's interaction with the Nintendo 3DS.
